Blackson shared similar sentiments, turning down numerous overseas opportunities due to what he perceived as a lack of respect and adequate compensation for entertainers. Particularly, Blackson pointed out the disparity between the earnings of American and non-American comics, especially in the UK. Mentioning Ricky Gervais as an exception, Vlad agreed that only a handful of British comedians seem to earn considerable paychecks, citing a lack of appreciable financial opportunities for Black comedians in the UK. Michael Blackson further emphasized that a comedian s recognition and pay scale increase considerably in the U.S. compared to other countries.
