The software used to design gemstone faceting patterns in America and around the world has an interesting history that goes back to the 1970 s and beyond. In this documentary, we will speak to the pioneers and engineers of this unique technological niche and discover how the software developed, how it spurred new innovations in the faceting community, and how the software transitioned and evolved over the decades. Starting with crude beginnings on scientific calculators, the documentary covers the development of GemCad, GemRay, BOG, GemCutStudio, and Edge Frosting Tool.
