These SAME laws are NOW being used to by gun control advocates to advocate for gun control TODAY. Gun control advocates are using the very existence of these laws as a legal basis to show that there is a \ historical tradition\ within the United States and preceding colonies as a claim to bolster the constitutionality of gun control today.
